How to Get to Almagro from Madrid Barajas Airport

By Train:

  1. Step 1: Arrival at Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD)

    • Upon arrival, follow signs to the airport’s train station, Cercanías Renfe, located at Terminal 4 (T4).

    • If arriving at another terminal, you can take the free airport shuttle bus to T4.

  2. Step 2: Train to Madrid Atocha Station

    • Take the Cercanías C1 or C10 line from the airport to Madrid Atocha train station. The journey takes about 25 minutes.

  3. Step 3: High-Speed Train (AVE) to Ciudad Real

    • At Madrid Atocha, purchase a ticket or use a pre-booked ticket for the AVE (Alta Velocidad Española) train to Ciudad Real. The journey takes approximately 50 minutes.

  4. Step 4: Local Train or Taxi to Almagro

    • From Ciudad Real, you can take a local train (Renfe Media Distancia) to Almagro, which takes about 20 minutes.

    • Alternatively, you can take a taxi directly from Ciudad Real to Almagro, which takes about 30 minutes.

By Car:

  1. Step 1: Car Rental at Madrid Barajas Airport

    • Upon arrival, you can rent a car at any of the rental agencies located in the airport terminals.

  2. Step 2: Drive from Madrid to Almagro

    • Exit the airport and take the M-40 highway towards the A-4 (Autovía del Sur).

    • Merge onto the A-4 highway, heading south towards Ciudad Real.

    • Continue on the A-4 for approximately 170 km (about 1 hour 45 minutes).

  3. Step 3: Exit at Ciudad Real/Almagro

    • Take exit 174 towards N-430/CM-412 (Ciudad Real/Almagro).

    • Follow the signs to CM-412 and continue driving for about 22 km until you reach Almagro.

  4. Parking in Almagro

    • Almagro has several parking options, including public parking lots near the town center.

The former Convent of San Francisco now serves as the Parador de Turismo de Almagro, where history is woven into every courtyard and room.
